HOW TO CORRECT OUR NATURE OF GETTING ‘JEALOUS’ ON OTHERS?
“A female follower” who requested anonymity asked like this:
“ As an anonymous.. i would like to ask the solution to get rid of the feeling of jealousy”
Jealousy is the outcome of ‘insecurity’ and ‘fear for failure’. It is the result of too much of material attachments with the results.
In fact, competition is healthy until it remains as just competition to get more vigour; but, if it becomes jealousy, it is dangerous. For example, A.C. Bakthi Vedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON movement encouraged the healthy competition among devotees in distributing books when he was in this planet. There was a healthy competition between temples about who & which temple distributed more books. If any temple excelled in it, others appreciated and blessed those achievers. They pledged to do better than them in future.
Thus, competition should not become jealousy.
Let us see how jealousy comes due to insecurity and loss of failure. (Not all cases are like this. Take them just as examples):
A student becomes jealous on another if he scores more than him as he loses the grade of topper of the school.
A girl become jealous with another girl is beautiful and gets a good companion/husband. He fears whether her friends will become close to that new girl and she will lose her standing.
A man becomes jealous if his neighbour buys a latest costly car. Because, so far, he was thinking that he only is having a costly car in his area.
Not just common people, even some devotees who are following devotional way of life get affected by jealousy.
Any matured devotee will not allow jealousy come to him/ her. However, this jealousy do exists among some starting level devotees and a very few immatured long term devotees also. Even in devotional service, if you desire for any post, there are SOME chances for the jealousy to come up. And, even among spiritual organisations, some organisations/ factions/ split up groups become jealous with the successful organization and throw mud on them.
Thus, jealousy is existing in all fields family, friendship, business, spirituality, etc.
Ok, what to do to avoid becoming jealous?
A matured person will not become jealous with anyone as he sees everything as the mercy of God. If you do your works with the attachments with the results, you will get jealousy. So, if you leave the results to Krishna and just do your works with a balanced / unoscillated mindset, you will not get jealousy.
Everyone of us is gifted with the fruits for our actions based on our past karma. If a person has cheated many customers in his business in his previous birth, and is expecting heavy profit in this birth, how can the Lord give it? He has to face loss for certain period till his karma is nullified. He should be patient till his karma is cleared.
If you TRULY believe the Lord, you will accept all the happenings as the blessing of Krishna. Then, where is the space for jealousy?
If you believe KARMA NETWORK, you will accept the success of others as the gift for their good karma in their previous births. Then, where is the space for jealousy?
In my observation of this society, I have inferred the following about jealousy:
The friends, neighbours, relatives and classmates/ officemates develop jealousy among them.
There are some people who mostly don’t get jealous when we succeed but feel happy with our success. They are:
Mother, Father, Guru and God.
Mother and father actually feels very happy when their son/ daughter achieves in life. Are they jealous on their children?
Guru/ teacher actually becomes happy when his disciple or student becomes successful in life. A teacher will always remain a teacher. But, his students will become doctors, collectors, Prime Ministers, presidents, judges, etc. But, on seeing the success of all his students, a teacher feels proud.
Next God. The Lord is very happy when His devotee is appreciated by others. He in fact gives more facilities for His devotees to achives still more in his life.
Thus, if you keep your heart like that of mother, father, teacher or God, and if you treat others like your children, students, and children of God, you will never become jealous on anyone.
Hope this has helped you sufficiently.
