How to stop Regretting for the Past & Future? Simple tips!
A Girl follower asked like this:
“I am so distracted and do not have the discipline to learn by myself. I learn online but very very slowly after so much procrastination. When deadlines come I panic a lot.
How to stop regretting for past and worrying about future. It is absolutely normal and good for young people. But I do it too much. Most of my time goes away in it.
How to reduce over-socialising?”
REPLY:
When I connected your first and third question, I could get an idea about your problem.
Over-socializing may give you more distractions and hence your interest in studies may come down.
See, we can’t satisfy more people in our day to day life.

If you have too much of social connections, you may have to respond to the queries of all of them.
This will definitely affect your performance in crucial and important duties.
Of course it will be very interesting and fascinating to keep chatting with more and more friends and contacts.
But, we will start to spend more time in our social activities.
So, we should have priorities in life. Which assignment should be done first? Which one should be done next? Which one should be avoided as not important? How much time should be allotted for every assignment?
Thus, we have to fix the priorities and time to finish every task.
The planned tasks should be essential tasks only. Unproductive assignments should be avoided. That means, if any assignment is not going to help for your elevation in life, you should avoid taking that task.
Thus, if you decide to do only the useful and important tasks in life, you won’t feel lazy, lethargic, careless, etc.
In general, one does not get bored to do a job in which he has more interest or that gives more gains for him.
You are spending more time in unproductive social contacts and taking them to your head.

So, your affinity becomes more in social activities and you lose interest in essential activities.
You find social interactions more fascinating than learning the college syllabus.
Social interactions are also essential for life as it helps us to face the people boldly. However, we should be strict in spending limited time for that every day and spend more time for studies, career planning, devotional development, etc.
Spend 80% time for essential tasks and spend 20% for leisure. In this allocation of 20% of leisure, you can spend time for social interactions also.
Have self restriction in withdrawing from social activities and friends after spending a certain time for them.
Keep studies, career and devotion in the category of the most important tasks. Keep the friends, social interactions, social service, TV, etc as less important things in life.
If you don’t shine well in studies and career, you will lose your social recognition. Your friends won’t give sufficient importance for you. They may gradually move away from you.
So, to have better social presence, you need to study well and earn well and also lead a clean life.
If you keep this mindset, you will naturally focus more on studies, career, devotional practices, etc.

Regretting for the Past & Future means, you don’t have full faith in the karma system and the mercy of God.
By Regretting for the Past & Future, we lose our performance in the Present. We can’t change the events of past by regretting for what happened in the past.
Similarly, we can’t change the future events just by worrying for future. You can just perform your assigned duties without the attachment to the results/ outcome.
The Past has gone. The Future has not yet come.
Today, the Present is with you.
Unless you use the present effectively, you can’t have bright future.
So, Focus in the Present. Leave the future to the God. Forget the past incidents just after taking lessons from those incidents. Keep the lessons with you and forget the incidents.
If you approach the life like this, you won’t have any regrets in life.
Best of luck.
